There will be a Baseball Tryouts meeting on February 10th at 3:15pm in room 353.  The meeting should last no longer than 15 minutes.  Please see Coach Adams if you have any questions, or you can email Coach MacDonald at [email protected]


Lancer Baseball Winter Clinic

The Lancer Baseball program will be hosting a Winter Clinic starting on January 10th, and every Sunday(not including Super Bowl Sunday through Feb 21st).  There are two sessions:

Ages 7-9 go from 5-6:30pm

Ages 10-12 go from 6:30-8pm

Cost is $25 per session/per child or $120 for all six sessions.  The registration form can be found under "camps and clinics"

The Baseball's 3-2 come from behind against Mt. Vernon assures the team a spot in the regional tournament held next week.  This is the 2nd year in a row the Baseball team has made it to Regionals!  The Lancers play tomorrow night at #1 seed Marshall in the Conference 13 Semi-Finals.  GO LANCERS!

To try out you MUST give Ms. Porter a current VHSL Sports Physical Form filled out by a doctor and an Emergency Care Card signed by a parent/guardian.  Forms are available in the Student Activities Office or on www.lancerathletics.org  under “Files & Links”.  The physical form MUST be dated May 1, 2014 or AFTER for the 2014-2015 school year. The athlete AND a parent/guardian MUST also complete a Concussion Training Course ONLINE.  The link is on the Lancer Sports Website.

Students must pass no less than five credits the previous semester to be eligible to tryout.

Lancer Baseball Tryout info

Baseball Tryouts will start on February 23rd (Monday), and run through February 26th (Thursday), with players receiving their letters informing them if they made the team or not Friday, February 27th.  Times are 3:15-5:30pm, however, this time could be changed due to inclement weather, and having to move tryouts inside.  On Friday, February 27th, we will have our program meeting with the players speaking about the program, expectations, etc. and first official practice Saturday morning with lifting in the morning, then practice.

In order to tryout, players must have a current VHSL physical, Emergency Care Card, and Concussion testing done and on file.

The Players during tryouts will be evaluated on: Speed, Hitting, Hitting with Power, Arm Strength/Accuracy, and Fielding.

All Players will be evaluated on running the 60 yard dash, and from Home to 1st.  All players will be evaluated from the infield (throwing from SS to 1st base), and from the outfield (Throwing to 3b/Home from Right field)

Infield Process (8 balls hit to each)

-2 at them

-2 to the left

-2 to the right

-2 slow rollers

 

Outfield Process (8 balls hit to each)

-2 at them

-1 to the left

-1 to the right

-2 go get

-2 charge

 

Catcher Evaluation

-pop times on Monday/Tuesday

-receiving based off off catching pitchers

 

Pitcher Evaluation

-Velocity

-Accuracy

-off speed

 

Hitting Evaluation

-3 to 5 bunts (placed on 1b/3b side, ability to get down)

-8-10 pitches, coach pitched

 

Once everyone has been evaluated  Monday and Tuesday, the plan is to get do some intersquad scrimmaging Wednesday/Thursday, to make sure all coaches get a good look at everyone through individual tryouts and game situations.  Things could change due to inclement weather, so be sure to check the website, or email me at if you have any questions/clarification.
